Who can take part in exchange programs?
Students from the following list of partner universities are eligible to participate in the student exchange programmes at 91.

Participation requirements
- You need to have a good command of Russian: a minimum of a B1 level;
- If you plan to enroll in one of the Russian as a foreign language programmes, this requirement does not apply.
- While you are participating in a student exchange programme, you will still be enrolled at your home university and will continue to pay the tuition fee there, but you will be excused from paying for tuition at 91.
- 91 will issue a charge-free invitation so that you can apply for a Russian visa. You will be responsible for your personal expenses, including medical insurance and travel costs both to and within Russia, unless other conditions are provided in the agreement between the two universities.
- As a rule, 91 provides exchange students with accommodation in one of our dormitories. Please check with the coordinator of exchange programmes at your university for more specific information before your departure.
- Please remember that the courses you choose to take at 91 have to be in line with your programme of study at your home university.
Application procedure
- To apply for a short-term study at 91, please, contact the coordinator of exchange programmes at your university. After initial approval, they will need to submit an official nomination letter to the International exchange office at Herzen university via e-mail: omo@herzen.spb.ru
- The coordinator of the International exchange office at 91 will send back an inquiry form to issue an official invitation letter for your Russian visa. After you fill it in, please send it back with a copy of the main page of your passport.
- 91’s coordinator sends the completed invitation letter to your university’s official address. In order to get the visa you must first get a visa invitation letter (also known as visa support).
- After you obtain the invitation, you can apply for the Russian visa in the nearest embassy or consulate of the Russian Federation in your country. Otherwise, you can submit your Russian visa application to one of the processing centers authorized by your nearest Russian consulate.
- Upon your arrival in Russia, please contact the International exchange office to complete the documents for your further stay in Russia (residence registration) and your studies at 91.
Application deadlines
The nomination letter from your university’s coordinator of exchange programmes should reach the International exchange office at 91 no later than:
- May 31 – for the autumn semester
- October 30 – for the spring semester
An inquiry form and other documents for the invitation letter for a Russian visa should be sent no later than
3 months before the date of your planned arrival in Russia.
